Oxnard Youth Academy- school for disadvantaged children

Changes in the school have made days very busy. Only half of the old rooms (Oxnard I) remain. Due to that we also only have pupils up to the fifth grade. It is quite common that by the beginning of September there is no certainty in the existence of rooms for the school. Previous agreements are just invalid. So they were this year as well.

New rooms (Oxnard II) are located 3 km out from the centre of Soddo. The rooms are spectacular compared to the old ones. Since the location of the old rooms is more suitable for most of the children, most of the pupils (150) remained in the old rooms. There are 70 pupils in the new rooms.

On the second week 66 pupils got a new school uniform. We were also able to provide them with backpacks brought along from Estonia. Annika is interviewing all the pupils with a former teacher to ascertain the families economical situation and buy shoes and exercise books if necessary. For the purposes of personal hygiene soaps were given for hold with the kitchenlady and all the children received a set of buttons, a needle and some thread to maintain the appearance of their uniform.
